A Sympathy Award By VGMA??
We just witnessed the 19th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) last night. Where, for the very first time, a female artiste won the most prestigious artiste of the year award. This female artiste is no other person than the late songstress, Ebony Reigns. It was such a happy moment for me and her many music lovers until a friend blurted out, "oh this one dieerr they gave it to her because she is no more"
I was like come on! We are talking about the 'bonyfied' dancehall queen here.
Yes, the only Ghanaian female artiste to blow up in a male-dominated industry without a feature from any big artiste. The lady that has worked tirelessly hard and successfully released back-to-back hit songs. Hit songs that have got Ghanaians singing and dancing to date. One of her songs 'Hustle' has over 1 million views on youtube.
Yes, we are talking about the 'Maame hw3' hit maker who headlined most news than any other artist in 2017 for her appearance on many institutional programmes, including Radio and Television Personality Awards (RTP), Joy Fm Old Skuul Reunion, Miss Malaika 2017 grand finale, Star Fm’s Concert, Citi Fm’s December 2 Remember concert and many more.
Yes, the lady that won the most coveted Kwame Nkrumah artiste of the year award as well as the female vocalist at Bass 2017. The same songstress People’s Celebrity Awards acknowledged for her hard work and honored her as the Female Musician of the Year at their annual award scheme which seeks to award and celebrate individuals who have contributed immensely towards the development of the Ghanaian Arts and Entertainment industry.
All these feats and you stand somewhere and say it was a sympathy award by VGMA?? Hello!
It was a well-deserved award. Ebony proved beyond doubt she was worth the hype by working so hard to secure herself the artiste of the year award. It was rather unfortunate the songstress wasn't around to see how her hard work finally paid off. #EbonyReignsForever. Rip queen. You really made a mark.

I think she deserved it.
ReplyDeleteI love the performance this they did to honour her memory.π
ReplyDeleteLet me start by saying this year's VGMA awards was boring. Also the awardees behaved as if, they know that they will be awarded. There was no surprise. For Eboney, she did very buy I think that sympathy counted.
ReplyDeleteShe deserved it ✌️
ReplyDeleteShe really deserved that award... #ebonyreignsforever
ReplyDeleteAll I can say is, Bony Pon did ππ½ππ½ππ½
ReplyDeleteI don't think so, she worked hard last year and her rapid growth in music within the Shortest possible time was undoubtedly remarkable. Additionally if she was alive today, this award would have been a token of her hard work. She did deserves it.
ReplyDeleteSympathy Awards, and so what? She was so full of talent and worked hard to blow up, but unfortunately suffered encountered a very sad death. The votes went for her she will reign. I miss her. 'Kupe' was my jam

She ddnt deserve anything .... it was a sympathy award..
ReplyDeleteAre you sure, thus awards must be called sympathy awards?
ReplyDeleteWell said
ReplyDeleteDid she have an album?
ReplyDeleteShe did. It's called 'bonyfied'
DeleteHmmm...I must say I wasn't really her fan but I think she worked hard for this, we can't deny it.
ReplyDeleteShe worked hard, but as to whether she deserved it, I think the other artistes in that category did a better job.
ReplyDeleteIt's just to sympathise her and her family though
ReplyDeleteShe is resting now
ReplyDeleteA society that knows only how best to honour the dead isn't worth recasting its foundation when it collapses.
ReplyDeleteWe have gotten what we wanted: finally.
Ebony — even her ghost won't celebrate this 'nonsense' that has been made after her.
to God & man?
to man & nation?
to the dead & the epiphany of gross 'senselessness'!
